When will the 21st National Conference on Child Abuse and Neglect Meeting (NCCAN) be held?
Wednesday through Friday, April 24–26, 2019.
Where will the meeting be held?
The Washington Marriott Wardman Park Hotel, 2600 Woodley Road, NW, Washington, DC.
When will registration be open for the meeting?
Registration is open and can be accessed via the 21st NCCAN Online Registration Site.
Are there any registration fees associated with the 21st NCCAN?
No. There are no registration fees associated with the 21st NCCAN.
Do you offer one-day registration?
Yes, one-day registrations will be available for the 21st NCCAN.
When is the registration deadline?
Pre-conference registration closes April 1, 2019 or when the maximum capacity of registrations has been reached, whichever comes first.
Do I have to pre-register for the sessions I want to attend?
Session selection will be required when you register for the 21st NCCAN. Many sessions are very popular. Seating in the sessions is first-come, first-serve.
What if I forget what sessions I selected during registration?
Your selected sessions will be provided to you with your confirmation email. In addition, once you set up your profile on the 21st NCCAN mobile app, your sessions will be uploaded to your “My Schedule” at least one week prior to the conference in April 2019.
What is the difference between the session types at the 21st NCCAN?
The 21st NCCAN will offer participants the opportunity to engage in discussion with and learn from one another in a variety of formal and informal settings in the following session formats:
- Workshops are designed to increase knowledge and understanding and provide practical applications for a broad range of research, policy, and programmatic issues. Up to three presenters engage participants in exploration of a single topic.
- Skills Seminars engage participants in intensive, hands-on training designed to enhance proficiency and learn new skills and strategies. Presenters will use various formats, including dialogue, role-play, brainstorming, and other active learning modes, and are encouraged to share tools and resources that participants can access after the session.
- Poster Presentations offer unique opportunities to present original research, new data, exciting service delivery initiatives, education activities and other pioneering work impacting our field today.
- Policy Forums are half-day sessions offering the opportunity to dig deep into policy issues and allow for the type of dialogue that is critical to informing the development of policies or improving policies being implemented.
- NEW at NCCAN
Two different types of 40-minute sessions being offered at this year’s NCCAN to give you more options for customizing your conference experience to better meet your learning styles and interests.
- Spotlight Sessions are designed to promote focused discussions on innovations, issues or practices. (No AV)
- Showcase Workshops are presentations on effective program models, useful tools, or new research and implications for practice. (AV equipped)
Will there be a waiting list if the registration capacity is reached?
Yes, a waiting list will be established when the registration capacity has been reached. Waitlisted members will be notified of their status no later than April 1, 2019.
Can I send a substitute in my place if I cannot attend the conference?
We are not able to accommodate substitutions through the online registration site. If you are no longer able to attend the conference and wish to cancel/transfer your registration to someone else, please email NCCAN@impaqint.com for assistance.
What are the check in hours?
Registration and Information Desk hours are as follows:

Where is onsite check in located?
Onsite check in will be located on the lobby level of the hotel at the Convention Registration Desk.
When will I receive my badge?
You will receive your badge when you check in at the Registration and Information Desk at the 21st NCCAN.
Am I required to wear my badge?
Yes, badges are required for admittance to all 21st NCCAN functions. Please stop by the Registration and Information Desk if you have misplaced your name badge.
I am attending both the CB Annual Grantee Meeting and the 21st NCCAN, do I need to register separately for each meeting?
Yes. Registration for the CB Annual Grantee Meetings and the 21st NCCAN will use separate registration sites. Please be sure to register for both your grant meeting and the NCCAN.
Are there any sponsorships or grants available to help support the cost of travel to the 21st NCCAN?
No. Unfortunately, there are no funds available to assist with travel to the 21st NCCAN.
How do I make hotel reservations?
The Washington Marriott Wardman Park Hotel reservations room block is open. Please refer to the Hotel & Travel page for details.
What is the deadline for making hotel reservations in the conference room block in order to receive the government per diem rate?
The hotel room block cutoff date is March 31, 2019 at 6:00pm ET. We encourage all participants to make their reservations as early as possible, as we anticipate that the room block will fill quickly. Once the room block is full, there is no guarantee that the government per diem rate will be available at the conference hotel.
How do I get to the Washington Marriott Wardman Park?

I do not want to stay at the meeting hotel or I did not make my hotel reservation in time. Can you provide me with discounted rates at other hotels in the area?
We are not offering discounted rates at additional hotels in the area.
What meals will be served at the conference?
Due to government regulations, no food or beverage will be provided with your conference registration.
What lunch options are available at the Washington Marriott Wardman Park?
The Washington Marriott Wardman Park has multiple restaurant options located within the hotel and within walking distance. A selection of hotel offerings are listed below.
- Stone’s Throw Restaurant and Bar is a stylish restaurant and bar showcasing classic American fare with modern accents, prepared with farm-fresh, mid-Atlantic ingredients.

Will there be a printed program or meeting agenda available at the meeting?
An Agenda at a Glance will be provided at onsite check in. There will not be any printed programs available at the meeting. The conference program and meeting agenda will be located on the About page of the 21st NCCAN Website and on the 21st NCCAN mobile app. We encourage you to download or pre-print a program to refer to at the meeting before traveling to Washington, DC.
Will there be printed presentations available at the meeting?
No, printed presentations will not be provided at the meeting. As part of our continuing effort to be green, all NCCAN Conference materials will be available on the 21st NCCAN mobile app (if speakers have provided the materials). No paper handouts, USBs or CDs will be available onsite. We encourage you to download course materials or pre-print materials before traveling to Washington, DC.
Will a participant list be made available?
A participant list will not be made available. You will be able to connect with other meeting participants using the 21st NCCAN mobile app. For additional details, please see the Mobile App page on the 21st NCCAN website.

To maximize your conference experience, download the 21st NCCAN app on your mobile device, tablet, or computer. The 21st NCCAN mobile app has a number of features: personalize your conference schedule; access speaker biographies, session presentations, and exhibitor details; connect with other conference attendees; stay up-to-date on conference events; and receive real-time communications from conference staff. Instructions to download or access the app can be found on the Mobile App page of the 21st NCCAN website.
Will the sessions I select during registration populate my schedule on the mobile app?
Yes, once you download the mobile app and set up a profile (using the email address you used to register for the conference), your selections from registration will populate.
I’m not able to attend the meeting in person; will virtual participation be available?
Yes. Those unable to attend the conference in-person can still participate in part of the meeting via the conference livestream, NCCANLive. Several of the conference sessions will be streamed live on the Internet, with the opportunity for online participants to ask questions and follow the conversation via the 21st NCCAN website and social media. Registration for NCCANLive will be available at the end of March.
Will Continuing Education Units be provided for participation at the 21st NCCAN?
CEUs will not be provided by the planning committee of the 21st NCCAN. Please contact your accreditation organization to find out if you are allowed to submit for credits on an individual basis.

What happens if there is a schedule change during the meeting?
At times it might be necessary to relocate sessions within the conference. The mobile app will send push notifications with any room changes during the conference and hotel reader boards will be current to reflect all session locations.
I’m deaf/hard of hearing. Will American Sign Language (ASL) interpreters be provided at the conference?
Yes, there will be ASL interpreters at the Plenary and Master Sessions at the 21st NCCAN. Please self-identify during the registration process and we will provide additional information to you onsite during check in.
What should I wear?
Business casual is appropriate. We suggest you dress in layers for your comfort as the temperature in the meeting rooms can vary considerably.
I cancelled my registration for the 21st NCCAN. Will my hotel reservation automatically be cancelled?
No, cancelling your NCCAN registration will not cancel your hotel reservation. Please contact the hotel directly to cancel your reservation. Your hotel reservation cancellation is subject to the hotel’s cancellation policy.
Will there be Wi-Fi available at the meeting?
Free (limited bandwidth) Wi-Fi is available in the main meeting areas and session rooms. Due to the limited bandwidth, Wi-Fi is not recommended for use by exhibitors for their displays/presentations.
